Sydney's Taxi Networks provide a booking service for passengers who use wheelchairs to locate the closest available Wheelchair Accessible Taxi (WAT).
It is better to phone and book a vehicle ahead of pick-up time by calling (02) 8332 0200 in Sydney or your local Country Network. It is not advised that you try and hail a WAT.
Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme
The New South Wales Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme (TTSS) was introduced in 1981 in recognition of the challenges people with limited mobility have in using public transport.
TTSS provides subsidised taxi travel at half the metered fare to people with qualifying severe and permanent mobility limitations. The maximum subsidy that can be claimed is $30.
Participation in the TTSS is not means tested, however, applicants must meet eligibility criteria. Receipt of an aged, invalid, blind or other pension will not automatically qualify an individual for participation in the TTSS. Preschool-aged children, regardless of their disability, are ineligible for inclusion in the TTSS.
The TTSS operates in New South Wales only and can be used by approved participants for all their transport needs.
Travel dockets cannot be used for interstate travel with the exception of the border towns of Albury / Wodonga, Echuca / Moama, Tweed Heads / Coolangatta and Cobram / Wahgunyah.
For further information on TTSS and how to apply for participation, contact the Transport Co-ordination Authority on 1800 623 724.
