This information does not include the accessibility of bus stops. The majority of bus stops in NSW are owned and operated by local council. Please contact your local council for information on the accessibility of individual bus stops.
All trains are accessible. Look for the wheelchair symbol on specific cars. You can ask for assistance boarding or exiting trains and some stations have accessible facilities. Stations marked as wheelchair accessible have level, ramp or lift access to all platforms. Visit Sydney Trains Accessible services page and Station details page.
Accessible transport during trackwork
If you require wheelchair accessible transport through areas affected by trackwork please contact your local station beforehand to arrange a low-floor bus or other suitable vehicle. Please allow additional travel time. Visit Sydney Trains Trackwork page.
Sydney Buses and private buses
Over 70% of buses in Sydney and Newcastle are wheelchair accessible. Visit the Sydney Buses Accessibility page. The majority of bus stops in NSW are owned and operated by local council. Please contact your local council for information on the accessibility of individual bus stops.
All Sydney Ferries vessels are accessible via the 23 wheelchair accessible ferry wharves, although gangway and ramp gradients at some wharves are dependent on the tide. View the Sydney Ferries Accessibility page.

NSW TrainLink provides a vital connection for people in regional New South Wales. If you are travelling in a wheelchair or scooter, with medical equipment or with an assistance animal then you will need to book your trip by calling 13 22 32 or visiting a NSW TrainLink Travel Centre. Sydney's Taxi Networks provide a booking service for passengers to locate the closest available Wheelchair Accessible Taxi (WAT). Phone and book a vehicle ahead of pick-up time by calling (02) 8332 0200 in Sydney or your local Country Network. View the Accessible taxi transport page.
The Vision Impaired Person’s Pass
Holders of this pass can travel free on Sydney trains, Sydney Buses, Sydney Ferries and Newcastle Buses & Ferries. View the Vision Impaired Person's (VIP) Pass page.
Pensioner Concession Card
Holders of this pass are entitled to a half-fare concession as well as a number of other discounted excursion tickets. View the Pensioner Concession Card page.
The Companion Card entitles NSW and interstate residents (from participating states) with significant and lifelong disabilities to bring an attendant with them on public transport free of charge.
Guide Dogs and assistance animals
Guide dogs and registered assistance animals are permitted on public transport services at all times.
