Secure Taxi Ranks and Prepaid Taxi Fare Trial at Kings Cross
Prepaid secure taxi ranks locations:
- Bayswater Road (adjacent to Hugo’s Lounge)
- Darlinghurst Road (adjacent to Empire Hotel)
Prepaid secure taxi ranks operating times:
- Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9 pm until 6 am.
- Other peak times, such as New Years Eve and Australia Day.
A trial of secure pre-paid taxi fares is operating from the two Kings Cross secure ranks when the taxi marshals are on duty.
A taxi driver may request the customer pay the estimated fare before the start of or during the journey. The customer must pay the estimated fare if asked by the driver. If they do not pay the estimated fare when asked, the driver can refuse to carry them.
Please note that these are only estimated fares. The customer must pay the fare that is displayed on the meter plus any applicable tolls. If the final taxi meter reading, plus tolls, is less than the amount pre-paid, the driver must refund the difference to the customer.
If the total taxi meter reading, plus tolls, is more than the amount pre-paid, the customer must pay the balance of the fare to the driver.
Please note there is no refund of any service charges if fare is paid by EFTPOS.
If customers encounter any problems or wish to provide comment on the trial you can do this by phoning the Taxi Customer Feedback Line on 1800 648 478 or by sending an email to pre-paidtaxifares@transport.nsw.gov.au.
