School transport information

New and returning students can plan their trip to school by using the Trip planner or by searching the Timetables.

Some schools have dedicated school bus services for their students. These are run by local bus operators.

To get your school timetable, use one of the following options:

• Dedicated school bus services timetables
• State Transit Authority (STA) school bus trip planning
• State Transit Authority (STA) school timetables

The School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) provides subsidised travel for eligible school students on rail, bus and ferry services.

Students are expected to be courteous and responsible and follow codes of conduct when travelling between home and school.

Dedicated school bus services timetables 

For State Transit Authority (STA) bus timetables, you can search by school name directly on the Sydney Buses and the Newcastle Buses websites.

For private bus operators’ timetables, follow these steps:

Step 1. Select the map corresponding to your school’s region:

• Illawarra map (pdf 568kb)

Step 2. Click on the links in the region map where your school is located.  The links will take you to the bus operator’s website that services your school’s region. 

Step 3. To access timetables, select your school’s name from the list provided on the bus operator’s website.

Additional information
Not all schools have dedicated school bus services.  If your school does not appear on the bus operator’s website, use the Trip planner to assist you with regular transport options operating close to your home and school.

Dedicated school bus services may be adjusted by bus operators to better reflect student travel demands. Private bus operators, Sydney Buses and Newcastle Buses will notify schools of any significant service changes.

State Transit Authority (STA) school bus trip planning 

Find a trip to and from school by using the Trip planner, which includes STA buses as well as regular bus, train and ferry services.

Step 1.  Click on  plan your trip  to start a new trip.

Step 2.  Enter your locations, by street, landmark or school. Set the time to arrive before school starts.

Step 3.  Select your preferred transport mode(s):

Step 4.  Select walk speed:

Step 5.  Select your travel preference. We recommend you select shortest travel time.

Step 6.  Click

Step 7. Trip planner results are displayed. Maps can also be viewed by following the links.

State Transit Authority (STA) school timetables

If you know your STA school route number, you can search the Timetables.

Step 1.  Click  plan your trip  then select  timetables.

Step 2.  Enter  school route number.

Step 3.  Tick STA school buses checkbox.

Step 4.  Select  day of travel then click  show timetable.

Step 5.  Search bus route to confirm your bus.

Step 6.  Your timetable is displayed.
