Fares and Passes

Pensioner Excursion Tickets

A new Pensioner Excursion Ticket, at a flat fare of $2.50 is part of the NSW Government's Fairer Fares plan. The tickets cover all day travel around Sydney and Newcastle.

Introduced on January 4 and replacing all existing Sydney and Newcastle Pensioner Excursion Tickets, the new ticket has been extended to private bus operators in the Sydney metropolitan area and will continue to apply to travel on the CityRail network, State Transit buses and Sydney and Newcastle ferries. From 24 September 2005 the PET will also be recognised by participating private sector bus companies in outer metropolitan areas as well.

Pensioner Excursion Tickets are available to people holding Centrelink pensioner concession cards, NSW Seniors Cards or NSW or Victorian War Widow/er concession cards.
For further information on Concession entitlements, click here.

You can purchase a Pensioner Excursion ticket at any time of the day from drivers of both private and state buses, at CityRail stations and Sydney and Newcastle ferry ticket offices. Tickets are valid for travel up to 4.00am the following morning.

Certain services are excluded: Sydney Explorer Bus, Bondi Explorer Bus, special event buses and Manly Jetcat. A station access fee also applies when using any of the Airport Line stations - Green Square, Mascot, Domestic or International.

One way or short distance return train travel

If you only use CityRail and are making a single trip of less that 35km, you should purchase a concession CityRail single ticket, not a Pensioner Excursion Ticket. A single concession ticket will cost you a maximum of $2.40, depending on the distance you travel.

If you wish to make a return trip that's less than 5km each way, you should purchase a concession CityRail return ticket which will cost $2.40.
