Jobseekers eligible for travel concessions are entitled to a half-fare single and return travel on CityRail trains, Sydney Buses and private bus operators (including MyBus TravelTen tickets), Sydney Ferries (including MyFerry TravelTen tickets), Newcastle time-based fares, and a concession on the Airport Line Gate Pass station access fee.
Concessions are not available on MyMulti tickets, Newcastle TimeTen, MyTrain off-peak return or weekly, 14-day, monthly, quarterly or yearly tickets. Special or premium services, charter services, special event services (except Moore Park Special Event Bus services) and tourism services are also excluded.
Some private operators, including the light rail, monorail, private ferries, CountryLink, Great Southern Rail and regional services may offer concessions at their own discretion. Check with the operator before travelling.
The entitlement card is issued by Centrelink on behalf of Transport for NSW. It must be carried at all times when travelling so you can produce it if requested to do so by transport staff.
To obtain concessions you need a NSW Half Fare Entitlement Card for Jobseekers.
To be eligible for a card you must be in receipt of one of the following Commonwealth benefits at the maximum rate:
- Youth Allowance (jobseeking)
- Newstart Allowance
- Parenting (Partnered)
- Partner Allowance
- Widow Allowance
- Exceptional Circumstances Relief Payment
- Sickness Allowance
- Special Benefit
- Newstart Allowance Incapacitated
- Community Support Program
- Job Placement, Employment and Training scheme
To obtain a card you need to apply in person at a Centrelink office, where you will be issued with a card immediately or provided with reasons in writing if you are deemed ineligible.
The card, which shows the Centrelink date stamp, is signed by you and the issuing officer and is valid for 3 months. After this you will need to reapply at a Centrelink office and be reassessed. One replacement card may be issued free of charge during a three-month period. Applications for replacement cards can be made in person to Centrelink.
