Pensioner Concession CardHolders of a Pensioner Concession Card issued by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans Affairs are entitled to half fare concessions on the metropolitan and outer metroplitan public transport network, three special daily excursion tickets and limited free travel on CountryLink or Great Southern Rail services, though not all entitlements are available to non-NSW card holders.

Transport concessions are not available to dependents listed on the reverse of the card. See the CentreLink website for more information on the Pensioner Concession Card.

Half Fare Concessions

Pensioner Concession Card holders are entitled to half fare concessions on government rail, bus and ferry services, private bus services and most private ferries as well as the concession Gate Pass at AirportLink stations.

Concessions are not available on longer term MyMulti tickets (monthly, quarterly and yearly), special or premium services, charter services, special event services or tourism services. See our fares page for a full list of concession fares.

Concession fares on privately operated services, such as the fast ferries between Manly and Circular Quay, Light Rail and Monorail may differ and if in doubt you should check with the operator.

Excursion Tickets

Pensioner Concession Card holders are also entitled to three cheap daily excursion tickets:

  1. The $2.50 Pensioner Excursion Ticket which gives unlimited travel, all day in the Sydney metropolitan and outer metropolitan areas - Newcastle, the Lower Hunter, the Central Coast, the Blue Mountains, Lithgow and the Illawarra, on government trains, buses and ferries, T-way buses,  participating private bus servics and Metro Light Rail. Also available on private regulated ferry services but restricted to local residents reliant on the ferry as their point of entry to the metropolitan and outer metropolitan public transport network, and requires prior registration with the local operator;
  2. The $2.50 Country Pensioner Excursion (CPE) fare on CountryLink services provided outside of the CityRail network. This ticket is only available to NSW/ACT and Victorian card holders. Cardholders from other Australian States and Territories are entitled to half fare; and
  3. The $2.50 Regional Excursion Daily (RED) ticket on regulated local bus services or local bus network in rural and regional areas, but excluding dedicated school services.

Pensioners travelling to Aiport Link stations on the Pensioner Excursion Ticket will be required to purchase an additional Gate Pass at the station.

Free Travel

NSW and ACT Pensioner Concession Card holders are also entiteld to a combined total of four single or two return free journeys on CountryLink or Great Southern Rail services within NSW each calendar year. A booking fee will be charged by CountryLink for First Class Travel. Card holders from other Australian states and territories are entitled to a half-fare.

Different concession benefits may be offered in other States and Territories, so check before you travel.
