Apprentices & Trainees

Document Actions

Apprentices and traineesYou are entitled to a concession fare if you have an Indentured Apprentice/Trainee NSW Transport Concession Card, which you must carry with you at all times so you can produce it if requested by transport staff.

Concessions apply to MyBus, MyTrain (excluding off-peak return), MyFerry, MyMulti DayPass and MyMulti weekly tickets; and you get a concession for the Airport Line Gate Pass station fee.

This concession is not available on MyTrain off-peak return, MyMulti monthly, quarterly or yearly tickets, or on charter services, special event services (except Moore Park Special Event Bus services) or tourism services. See our All Fares page for a full list of concession fares.

Some private operators, including the light rail, monorail, CountryLink, Great Southern Rail and regional services may offer concessions at their own discretion. Check with the operator before travelling.

Note that you are not eligible for the concession if you have been classified by the NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC) as being on an Existing Worker Traineeship.

Elegibility

If you are a first, second or third year apprentice or trainee who is registered with DEC under either the Australian Indentured Apprentice Scheme or the Australian Traineeship System Scheme, you are entitled to a half-fare concession on government and private buses, Sydney Ferries and CityRail train journeys between your home, workplace and place of study.

You can obtain this card by lodging a completed application form, signed by you and endorsed by your manager, together with a recent photograph, with the Transport Passes and Concessions Office.

Download an application form (pdf 44KB) or obtain one from the Department of Education and Training (DET) by calling 13 28 11.

The card will be issued free of charge and is valid for a maximum of three years if you are an apprentice or for the life or your traineeship. Replacements for lost or damaged cards can be made on the same form, and will attract a fee equivalent to the cost of a MyTrain (0-10kms) weekly ticket.
