Volvo Bus

Bus travel requires a MyMulti or MyBus ticket.

MyMulti tickets allow unlimited trips on Sydney Buses, Newcastle Buses and private bus operators within the timeframe specified on the ticket.

MyBus tickets can be used for trips on Sydney Buses or private bus operators.  If you change buses halfway through your journey, each leg is considered to be an individual trip and tickets must be validated accordingly, , except where an existing transfer exists.

MyBus tickets are not valid on Newcastle Buses. For information on ticketing in Newcastle see Travelling in Newcastle.

MyBus tickets are available in three section based fare bands:

  • MyBus1 (1-2 sections)
  • MyBus2 (3-5 sections)
  • MyBus3 (6+ sections)

Tickets are available as single adult and concession for each of the fare bands.

MyBus 3

In addition a MyBus TravelTen ticket is available. These tickets are valid for ten single trips and available in adult and concession MyBus1, MyBus2 and MyBus3 configurations and offer a saving on the cost of 10 single MyBus tickets.

MyBus TravelTen tickets may also be validated more than once for a journey longer than the one specified on the ticket; for instance, a MyBus1 TravelTen may be validated twice for a journey equivalent to a MyBus2 (3-5 sections), or three times for a journey equivalent to a MyBus3 (6+ sections).

If your journey consists of a transfer to another bus, private or government, you must validate your MyBus ticket on each leg.  You need to calculate the number of sections for each leg and validate your ticket(s) accordingly, except where an existing transfer exists.

See our fares page for information on MyBus ticket prices.

See our MyZone page for more information on MyZone tickets including MyMulti options.

Calculating Sections

Bus routes are broken down into sections.  The MyBus ticket you require for a trip is determined by the number of sections you travel through, on a single bus trip. Sections are approximately 1.6 kilometres long and are marked on all route maps and some bus stop signs. To calculate sections see the Sydney bus operator network map and click on the map to view bus operator route and fare information for your area of interest.

To work out the MyBus ticket you require for your trip just:

  • Count the number of sections in your trip (see Sydney Buses example below)
  • Call 131500 Transport Info
  • Visit a TransitShop
  • Ask the driver when boarding your bus

Counting Sections on your Route Map - Sydney Buses example

Sections are marked on all route maps provided by the bus operator. To count the number of sections through which your trip will take you:

  1. Go to the website of your bus operator - Sydney Buses or Private Bus Operators
  2. Select the bus route you plan to use.
  3. Find the point where you will board the bus.
  4. Find the point where you will alight the bus.
  5. Count the sections, including part sections, through which you will travel.

In our example below you board the bus in section 10 and alight the bus in section 8. This means you have travelled in 3 sections, 10, 9 and 8. You will need to buy a MyBus2 ticket for this journey.
