StudentsSchool students between 16 and 18 years of age (inclusive) enrolled full time in a NSW/ACT secondary school or registered with the Board of Studies as a full time home-schooled secondary student are entitled to half fare concessions on government rail, bus and ferry services, private bus services and most private ferries as well as the concession Gate Pass at AirportLink stations.

Concessions are not available on longer term MyMulti tickets (monthly, quarterly and yearly), special or premium services, charter services, special event services or tourism services. See our fares page for a full list of concession fares.

Concession fares on privately operated services may differ and if in doubt you should check with the operator.

To obtain the concession fare students must be in possession of a NSW Senior Secondary Student Concession Card. A school student identification card issued by a school or a Home School certificate issued by the Board of Studies cannot be used in lieu of this concession card.

Concession cards are generally issued at the beginning of the school year and are valid from the date of issue for 12 months or until the 31st of March the following year, whichever falls first. Concession cards must have a current CityRail transport foil to be valid.

You must carry your concession card at all times when travelling on a concession ticket so you can produce it if requested to do so by Transport staff.

Mature aged students aged 19 years and over enrolled in a NSW/ACT secondary school or registered with the Board of Studies as a full time home-schooled secondary student are also entitled to half fare concession travel. See our 19+ page for more information.

Senior secondary school students may also be eligible for the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS), which offers free travel between home and school for those students who meet the eligibility criteria, in addition to the half fare concession for any non SSTS travel they undertake. See the Transport for NSW website for more information on the School Student Transport Scheme.

NSW Senior Secondary Student Concession Card

Senior Secondary Student Concession CardSenior Secondary Student Concession Cards are generally issued by the student's school and require no application form but applications can be made to the RailCorp Passes and Concessions Office by students during school holiday periods and by young people who are home schooled. Home school applicants need to provide a copy of their certificate of registration, issued by the NSW Board of Studies, showing their year of study and their course load. School applicants need to provide proof of identity, age and school.

Initial concession cards are provided free of charge whether issued by the school or by RailCorp but replacements for lost or damaged cards are issued by the RailCorp Passes and Concessions Office and attract a fee which is equivalent to the cost of a MyTrain 1 weekly ticket.

If you are applying to the RailCorp Passes and Concessions Office for an initial or replacement card you can download a Senior Secondary Student Concession Card Application Form or a Concession Card Replacement Application Form here, obtain a copy from your school or from the RailCorp Passes and Concessions Office. Applications can be delivered in person or sent by mail or email to RailCorp's Passes and Concessions Office with the necessary accompanying information attached.

The former Student Omnibus Concession Fare Certificate (or other card previously issued or recognised by a local bus operator), has now been replaced by the NSW Senior Secondary Student Concession Card.
