If
you are a student aged 16, 17 or 18 who is enrolled in a NSW or ACT
secondary school, or a student registered with the Board of Studies NSW
as a fulltime home-schooled or an Open Training and Education Network
(OTEN) distance education secondary student, you are entitled to a NSW
Senior Secondary Student Transport Concession card (Form
202).
You must carry your current concession card at all times when travelling on a concession ticket so you can produce it if requested to do so by transport staff.
Your concession card entitles you to a half-fare concession on MyMulti, MyTrain (excluding off-peak return), MyBus, MyFerry and Newcastle tickets. It also entitles you to a concession on CountryLink services, special event buses and the Airport Line station fee. For concession prices, see the All Fares page.
Concessions are not available on light rail, monorail, premium, charter or tourism services. Privately owned and operated services may offer concessions at their own discretion. Check with the operator before travelling.
In addition to the half-fare concession for general travel, senior secondary school students who are eligible under the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) are entitled to free travel between home and school.
School student identification cards issued by schools and home school certificates issued by the Board of Studies cannot be used for free or concession travel.
For $2.50 per person, students aged 16-18 with a current NSW Senior Secondary Student Transport Concession card can enjoy unlimited travel all day Sunday with their family. For more details, see the Family Funday Sunday page.
Senior Secondary Student Concession Card
Senior Travel
concession cards are generally issued to eligible students by the
school and are valid for the year of issue and until the 31 March the
following year (unless the student enters employment). To be valid, the
card must have a current CityRail Transport identifier security foil
attached.
Cards issued to students by a school require no application form, however students can apply for a card during school holiday periods, and home schoolers or secondary OTEN students at any time, at the Transport Passes and Concessions Office.
School holiday applicants need to provide proof of identity, age and school, while home school and OTEN applicants need to provide a copy of the Certificate of Registration issued to them by the NSW Board of Studies, which shows their year of study and their course load.
Secondary student concession cards are initially issued to the student by the school and issued free of charge. However, replacements for lost, stolen or damaged cards are only issued by the Transport Passes and Concessions Office and attract a fee equivalent to the cost of a MyTrain1 weekly ticket.
To apply for a replacement card download the Student Concession Card replacement application form (pdf 91KB) or get the form from your school or at the Transport Passes and Concessions Office.
Applications with the required accompanying information attached can be delivered in person or sent by mail or email to the Transport Passes and Concessions Office.
